OOC: So this isn't close to 3k words, and I know it's not since it's only at 1572 according to wordcounter.net. I've had a lot going on lately (baby has been sick for a month, I've been sick off and on, my great-aunt passed, etc) but still wanted to post something no matter how short/long it ended up being.
Zara was in the hotel that she was sharing with her fiance in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a light grin on her face as she thought back to the last couple of years since she got to the professional scene of things. She wasn’t booked in this year’s WrestleWar with New Frontier Wrestling, but it wasn’t going to stop her from being at the company’s biggest/end of the year show. Of course, with everything that had happened over the last couple of years, that had her reflecting back on the course her career had taken as well. The Filipino woman was looking through some old pictures on her phone when she came across one that made her stop, the smile on her face growing a little brighter but also a little sad at the same time.
”What’cha looking at, kitten?”
Zara turned her head to look up at Marcus, otherwise known as MUD, before she held her phone up for him to see the picture.
”That was the show after I got a call from Steven Brody and then Kai Morgan about signing with New Frontier and Zion. It was when I said good-bye to the little local company that had been my home for I don’t know how many years…just before my last match. They had wanted me to go for their top title, but obviously they were happy for me when I told them about the calls that I had gotten.”
Zara smiled faintly as she thought about the phone calls she had gotten only a few days prior to that picture being taken. That day/evening had been one of the best of her life to happen, aside from meeting MUD as well their engagement, of course. Without those calls a couple of years ago, though, she never would have signed with XIX or even met MUD, so she really did owe everything going in her life to the phone calls.
Zara had just gotten home from her family’s gym about 20 minutes earlier, having gone in for a workout and some practice before her next match in a few days time. The, then, green and black haired woman had just gotten out of the shower when she heard her phone ringing, but when she looked at the caller ID, she saw that it was an unfamiliar number from Illinois which confused her. She hadn’t worked for any promoters out that way in a couple of years, but she thought maybe it was one of them under a new number. The young woman hit the answer button and put the call on spajer so she could get dried off and dressed in some comfortable clothes while she spoke.
”Hello?”
”Hello Ms. Divata, or would you prefer Ms. Ivory since that’s what you go by in the ring?”
Zara paused for a moment, the voice unfamiliar but at the same time, somehow, familiar to her in a way that she couldn’t quite place. She licked her lips and cleared her throat before she spoke.
”Um…Zara is fine. I’m sorry, but who is this, and how did you get my number?”
”Steven Brody…CEO of New Frontier Wrestling. I received your number from one of your promoters after reaching out to them after watching some of your matches. You’re quite the unique in-ring talent, Zara.
That was it! New Frontier Wrestling! The Filipino woman had watched quite a few of their shows, having been impressed by what she saw when she watched. While she hadn’t competed in Illinois in recent times, she had visited friends there and went to a couple of the NFW shows while she was there. She wondered which promoter had given her number to Brody, but she wasn’t going to try asking…mostly because she was more surprised at being called. She heard Steven clear his throat, and Zara broke out of her slight daze.
”Oh! Uh…thanks, Mr. Brody. I thought your voice sounded kind of familiar…I’ve watched the shows before and saw a couple of your on-screen appearances. I have to say, I’m a fan of New Frontier.”
Zara could hear the man on the other end of the call chuckle and for some reason, it brought an embarrassed flush to her cheeks. She was glad that, for whatever reason he had called, it was just a simple phone call and nothing else.
”Well Zara, I’d like to offer you a contract with New Frontier after seeing some of your matches. I think you’d bring something very unique to the company, and I’d like to sign you with us. Right now, we’re in the middle of our Vlad Blackheart Memorial Tournament, so it would be a bit before you could be booked. However, with that being said, one of our roster members, Kai Morgan, also has a company, Zion Wrestling…I’ve passed your videos along to him, and he mentioned giving you a call.
Zara’s mind was blown…while she hadn’t been sure what the call was going to lead to, she wasn’t expecting to be offered a contract. Or to be told that another company would be contacting her as well! The dual-colored haired woman was stunned into silence, her mouth opening and closing a few times though no words seemed to escape from her lips. She blinked a few times in surprise and released a small cough before she found her voice.
”Really?! Thank you so much…I’m honored; I’d love that! I look forward to when I can be booked! And I’m aware of Zion; I’ve watched their shows some too. I look forward to everything, thank you so much for the opportunity, Mr. Brody! You won’t regret this!”
”I’m sure that I won’t, Ms. Divata…I’m sure that I won’t.I’ll let you go so that I’m not tying you up much longer. I’ll get a draft of a contracted emailed to you for you to look over and ensure that it works out for you.”
With another thank you and giving her work e-mail to NFW’s CEO, the Filipino woman hung up her cell then squealed. Working in New Frontier and Zion would end up giving her opportunities galore, not that she quite knew what those opportunities were just yet. By the end of the day, she was also offered a spot with Zion Wrestling. Her phone call with Kai Morgan had gone similar to the one she had with Steven Brody, albeit her nerves were slightly calmer since she knew the call was coming. Her opportunity to make it big was on the horizon, but of course Z still had to let the local scenes she wrestled for know about it…though she didn’t see any of them giving her a hard time.
”If only I knew what accepting those offers would do for my career and life in general…”
Zara tossed her phone onto the little side table that was next to the chair she was in and looked up at MUD with a grin before she continued.
”Ended up signing with XIX which led me to meeting you…one of the other greatest times in my life. Those signings really did bring so many opportunities, but they weren’t just for me in the long run of it all. Marley met Samuel because I had her traveling with me and got her on Twitter, and now they’re married and have Hiraya. And Tala met Jack recently…none of that would have happened if I had turned down those opportunities.”
”But you did, and you changed a lot of lives by signing those contracts when you did. Hell, kitten…within your first year, you were a multi-time champion. You were an inaugural champion, and you had a nickname passed down to you by someone a lot of people respect.”
Zara nodded lightly as she listened to what Marcus had to say, knowing that he was right. The Filipino woman pushed herself up from the chair she had been sitting in and walked behind it, wrapping herself up in MUD’s arms and leaning her head on his chest. Being away from him and her family had been the hardest part of the Last Man Standing competition, especially with her Lolo being diagnosed with terminal cancer, so she always soaked up every possible second that she was able to get with him. She inhaled his cologne deeply before she spoke again.
”The only thing I wasn’t able to do was win the World Series of Wrestling last year…”[/b]
She felt Marcus hold her tighter, and she looked up at him, seeing a smirking grin that was meant to reassure her and make her feel better about that. He kissed the top of her head before he spoke concerning it.
”Besides…if they can’t see just how amazing a competitor you are after you took part in last year’s contest and this one? Then fuck ‘em…they don’t deserve to have you as a winner. It’ll be their loss on someone that could have done who knows what with whatever their prize is. You’ll always be the top star in my book, though.”
Z gave Marcus a weak smile before stretching up to give her fiance a kiss. After 2 years together, she never needed to go into full detail about how something was bothering her…he just knew. Of course, now, the question was if she could pull off and huge upset or not. The thought remained on her mind as she stood there in silence with Marcus.
