This Is Awesome Promotions has some of the most talented and colourful wrestlers among its ranks, and it’s my job to get you acquainted with them all!
This week I sat down with one of the newest #awesome recruits - Action Wrestling Tag-Team Champion Azurine Vebbins!
A passionate, friendly and charming superstar, Azurine is currently in one of AW’s top tag teams with Aphirya Adler - Aphable Azzumption!
The duo are currently the CruiserClash Tag-Team Champions, and cracked the top 20 of the TIA January 2022 Rankings.
She’s got a way with words and a way with days, read on to learn a little more about the one they call Da Dame in Dat Dress!!
Emma: So Azurine, how did you get into wrestling?
Azurine: I got into grapplin' originally when livin' on da island of Phloriphornia. Performed some independent dates for a group known as Groves Valley Grapplin' ran by "Da Almighty Slam Miser" Slamuel Addergoole McBody, Senior. After a few years I immigrated to America where I first competed professionally on October 13, 2015 for Empire Wrestlin'. It was deyr I met my first wife "Da One Woman Army" F.M. Young. We were a happy couple and are still very amicable today, but we just couldn't make it work.
Em: You met your next partner at Elysium Pro, correct?
Azzy: Durin' our separation I dated a lovely lady named "Da Heart of Infinity" Alyssa Daniels. We met in Elysium Pro. She would eventually become World Champion deyr and was one of deyr first Tag-Team Champions as part of Infinity Revolution wid Kevin Moss. Meanwhile, I held da Elysium Pro Hybrid Championship for 7 days, defeatin' Boots Martin to earn da strap on my waist and successfully defended against my blestie, frequent professional dance partner/"work wife" Talia Areano and Spectre.
Em: What happened next?
Azzy: I lost da Hybrid Championship to F.M. Young who was hellbent on accumulatin' more gold. I also held deyr Triad Championships for a spell alongside Talia and a guy named "Da Bad Guy" Mariano Fernandez. Had to lay a foundation somewhere, y'know?
Em: So you’ve held some championships already, but where did you get your big break?
Azzy: MHW...Mile High Wrestlin', based outta Denver. Earned a Hall Of Fame nomination deyr. Competed against multiple rivals includin', but not limited to "Bullet" Alex Carbajal, "Bandit" Jackie Layton...who's Corrie's older sister and owner of Bras D'or, and "Titaness" Samanda Hamilton. Defeated da latter to become MHW DrowDown Champion in what many viewed to be an upset.
Em: Did you sell any merchandise?
Azzy: Sold a bunch of "Shush My Tush" Cookin' Aprons, "Heels Over Head" G-Strin's, and even got a Career Retrospective DVD which I still sell or can be streamed via Splat! It's called "Dat Azz: Da Triumphs of Da Adorkable Angel." Dree discs wid 18 different dances in total. I imagine you and Lissie probably viewed dem all before dis interview
Em: I haven’t seen it but I’ll have to get my hands on one! What was your most memorable match from this time?
Azzy: While I enjoy each encounter for different reasons, da one which elevated me most was pinnin', at da time, current, reignin', and defendin' MHW Heavyweight Champion Skrabal "Skrabz" Stanzas on Episode 22 of Mile High DrowDown. Would still be deyr today, but da owner closed da company for da second and final time earlier dis year.
Em: Since then you’ve made a name for yourself in Action Wrestling and a few other feds.
Azzy: I started competin' for Action Wrestlin' while also dancin' for VANGUARD Pro, New Frontier Wrestlin', Soud-side Wrestlin', Soud-ern Rebellion Wrestlin', and Omega Wrestlin' Alliance among odd-ers. One particular classic from VANGUARD Pro was when I faced "Suplex Mama" Stacy DeVille on deyr first telecast. Still sticks out in my memory since it was one of da first times I discussed crossin' someone off my "Dream Dance List." Really enjoyed my time deyr and wish it could've maintained momentum.
Em: Talking more generally, I know you’re a big fan of informing us of every national “day” on Twitter, what’s your personal favourite?
Azzy: Depends? I enjoy National Orange Juice and Star Wars Day since bode fall on my bornday of May 4. I also enjoy July 14 since it's a contractual day off of work since I spend National Nude Day at home wid my spectacular supportive spouse.
Em: As part of Aphable Azzumption with Aphirya Adler, you have risen to prominence in AW, capturing the CrusierClash Tag-Team Championships. Why do you work so well together?
Azzy: Aphable Azzumption works as a team since we know our respective roles. She's very friendly which is where da "Aphable" part comes in and well, I'm grey matter-of-fact 'bout bein' "Dat Azz." Aphriya's also got a dominant demeanor when we train and walk down to da dance floor. Meanwhile, as her teammate, I submit to her leadership...which again is why her half of da team name gets front billin'...and work our corner confidently when not suplexin' challengers who clamor for da Action Wrestlin' CruiserClash Tag-Team Championship strap on each of our wondrous waists.
Em: What’s your main goal as a wrestler? Do you aspire to be world champion?
Azzy: My main goals as a grappler, hooker, what have you are to promote dat every event is special in its own way, body positivity...dat's why pole fitness is a prominent part of my trainin' regimen, and eventually becomin' a World Champion. I also want to represent da grapplin' groups I dance for gracefully and be an amazin' ambassadress for TIA Promotions.
Em: You talk a lot about your fiance, Corrie Layton, what’s her story?
Azzy: Oh My Gams! While we haven't set an official date, I love knowin' I'm da soon-to-be Missus Corrie Layton! She's a bartender at Bras D'or, a nightclub ran by a Shieldmaiden as I mentioned earlier named Jackie Layton. Before securin' my Guest Doe gig wid Velvet Rabbit, which takes place on May 6 and is bein' marketed as my "Belated Dirty-Second Bornday," I performed pole fitness at Jackie's club. Corrie and I started chattin', really hit din's off, I performed, and den she held up my leash and told da entire bar I was goin' home wid her. Deyr were quite a few patrons jealous of us. Me 'cause I was bein' walked out by da most beautiful babe in da bar.
Em: So excited for your wedding, I bet it’s gonna be #awesome! Thanks for chatting with me, Azzy!
Azzy: Thank you, Emma.
