Act 1: Making Preparations
Camera: Off
The scene opens inside a spacious master bedroom suite within the majestic home of Maleek and Daniela Raye-Weathers. The loving couple can be seen conversing as the latter is doing a last minute check of her luggage for her trip to the Last Man Standing compound.
It has been a few months since Daniela received and accepted the prestigious Golden Ticket to participate in the industry renowned World Series of Wrestling. After many weeks of "will it or won't it happen ", the day has finally arrived for her departure. Being the enigma that she is, Daniela obviously chose the interdimensional travel option that was offered to get to the destination.
Maleek simply rubbed the back of his neck as he watched, occasionally passing an item over when it was requested. The invite was not all that surprising for him, Daniela had this aura. She always did. He was proud, of course, but would be lying that he did not think on how he hated it when she left. He had pretty well retired due to old injuries, himself.
Maleek: Life always finds a way.
He muttered softly. There was always something, which seemed like a genetic trait. The fact still stood she was off on another global adventure and he would be stuck home. He rubbed at the back of his neck more.
Maleek: I hope this proves to be worth the effort. Months of prep and minutes to officially get word you're going.
He shook his head.
Daniela heard his murmurs. She knew how he felt about her always being away from him and their boys. Their daughters Lya and Kia were already in committed relationships and off on their own. Almost empty nesters now. Whoa, who would have guessed it? Yet here they are.
Daniela: Mali, I know how much you hate it when I have to leave. You have no idea just how much I wish you and our boys.. hell our girls and their partners as well.. could come with me. I'm not too thrilled about having to leave again so soon. Labor Day was our first family holiday together in months.. but I promise you that I won't be gone long like the other times...
Daniela turned to face him as she took his hand in hers. Sitting down on their California King bed, she put her focus squarely on him.
Maleek nodded lightly. He did hate when she had to go. He missed the days that he could have followed. Hell he had not been in a ring in what ten years? Felt like a lifetime ago.
Maleek: Just frustrated. That's all.
He had to be honest about it, however, he may have been paying it lightly. He had been in that frame of mind since a doctor told him it was best to hang up his spurs, so to speak. Since then he had been doing his music production, but it just was not the same feeling. He missed the adrenaline.
Maleek: Just irritated that they kept skirting around and fishing. Oh we aren't doing it. Oh we are. No. Are. Not. Are. It makes one's head spin. Then whatever plans people have got uprooted because they decided to go through with it. It's dumb.
He shook his head as his thumb absentmindedly rolled over her knuckles.
She leaned forward and kissed his forehead. She knew that he still had the itch to wrestle. She could feel it. The glow in his eyes. The excitement on his face. The nostalgia of matches past. Down in her heart, she just knew that he still has plenty left in the tank. If only he would have gotten a second.. even a third and fourth opinion. They could be doing this together. It's not too late to get looked at again.. but she knows her husband: just as stubborn as she is.
Daniela: I know, mi amor. It was a lot of stuff going on. But it has been decided. I'm doing this for our family. Our legacy.
Maleek: I know..I know.
His words were a little more than a soft whisper. The Sanchez women always had so much more on the line with every action. Something he was sure they shared the wish would skip a generation or two.
Maleek: We spent a lot of time creating and building off one that was the basis of it all.
Trust that wish was always in the back of Daniela's mind daily. Her family..especially the women..always carried a heavy burden. The curse of being prejudged to only being just a pretty face with a thicker than normal waist and assumed limited intellect weighed heavily over the Sanchez women. Daniela was no exception to the rule. The more she worked, the more the criticism came.
Daniela: Yes and I want to ensure that it can't be disavowed or discredited by anyone in or out of the business. I want there to be no shadow of doubt in the minds of those people all around the world that our legacy is legit and well earned.
She nodded her head. She didn't quite get the whole premise of doing a reality show but at least it wasn't like Love Island or Bachelor/Bachelorette. So she's very grateful for that much.
Daniela: It looks that way. But you know me. Always up for a good challenge..
Maleek rolled his eyes.
Maleek: Producing instrumentals in a challenge. Eating really big portions of food is a challenge.
He smirked.
Maleek: Playing survivor meets the real world with a bunch of half-baked and half-hearted men and women. Not so much a challenge in my honest opinion.
He dusted off his shirt.
Maleek: Still.. Have you given any thought on what you'll do once you get there?
Hmm she hadn’t thought that far ahead yet. Good question though. Suddenly she received a text alert via her iPhone 14 Pro. It was from the promotion. Her arrival time was drawing near and the portal was about to open for her impending arrival at the Compound. Closing up her suitcase, she looked sadly at her husband. God how she abhorred saying goodbyes.
Daniela: Well that was the promotion saying the portal is about to open for participants to get to the compound. I really wish you could come with me. Trust me, I’ll be back home soon, I promise. Are you going to kiss me goodbye?
Maleek was not sure if it was the watching her go or the fact he could not that bothered him more. He took a deep breath.
Maleek: As if I need a reason to?
He pulled her over and kissed her eagerly.
Maleek: No sending anyone to the astral plane or some other weird dimension. I don't think anyone can live with knowing psychic octopus faced people are REALLY a thing.
She pulled her husband in closer and proceeded to give him a long passionate kiss. Thank goodness the boys are at her parents’ house or this would have been a lot more difficult for her to leave. Grabbing her bag, she walked into the mirror waving goodbye…
A few minutes later Daniela arrived at the compound’s main gate. Her eyes widened as she walked inside, taking mental notes of where each building was. This place had everything from a full service spa to a candy shop. Which was where Daniela wanted to head over to. First things first; she needed to check in and head over to her temporary living quarters for the next few weeks.
Living quarters adequate and stocked? Check. Luggage squared away? Check. Short nap to replenish spent energy? Check. After a warm shower to freshen up along with a change of wardrobe, Daniela made her way towards her chosen destination: Krazy Konfections. The name alone drew her attention right away.
After arriving she met her two team members Selena Frost and CJ O’Donnell. Selena looked a bit frazzled as she introduced herself. Daniela immediately hugged her tightly.
Daniela: Hi I’m Daniela. Come let’s get you to the nearest showers. You need a nice warm shower, a cold drink and some good food…
