2022 Battle of the Bowls – Chili Cookoff and Concert Recap
Feb 8th, 2022 – Santa Anita Park – Los Angeles, CA
Brought to you by THIS IS AWESOME PROMOTIONS
After a full day of chili, beer, and live performances, the Battle of the Bowls Chili Cookoff, brought to you in conjunction with the Piercing Media Network and THIS IS AWESOME PROMOTIONS, concluded on Wednesday evening at Santa Anita Park and Racetrack in Los Angeles, California.
The day was filled with unforgettable performances by Alestorm, Spose, Kaiser Chiefs, Devilition, Krawling Khaos and more! I even got to crowd surf - though I will say it’s a lot more uncomfortable than people make it out to be. Thunder Pro Wrestling star Drew Archyle was the master of ceremonies at the event, commanding the mic with his unhinged personality and slightly inappropriate jokes!
The iconic event included the biggest selection of artisan chili ever seen in Southern California. Over three dozen teams brought their culinary skills and unique flavor to the table. But there could only be one winner. Drew Archyle, was the head judge in the contest. The winning chili entry was submitted by the Ring Rust Cafe, titled "Rusty Chili". Their recipe was a vegan masterpiece, a favorite of Archyle who declared that it “bopped”.
The Cookoff raised over $120,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America foundation. A giant cheque was handed over to the charity by Archyle and Travis Pierce, and will go towards changing the lives of children facing adversity.
The event included a massive list of VIP invites from the wrestling world. In attendance was Level Up Wrestling Star, Bert McAlroy, who was happy to tell anyone who would listen about how proud he is to be the new Final Boss Champion.
All 13 models from the 2022 Women of E-Wrestling Calendar were in attendance as VIP’s at the some. They posed for pictures, signed autographs, had a few bowls of chili and mugs of beer, and entertained the musical acts backstage with their style and grace - in particular Lissie Hope was looking absolutely gorgeous!
Immediately following the Chili Competition, the focus shifted from the food to the music. Here are some highlights of the music on the main stage:
Up first, Krawling Khaos, led by lead singer and Level Up/PWE/Revolution 1 wrestler Chelsea Skye, opened up the stage with a heavy set of heavy metal. The crowd, which consisted of many wrestling fans, opened up to a massive mosh pit. But injuries were kept to a minimum, with rockers picking up anyone who fell down to keep them safe.
Up next, Jin-Min Jun, representing Revolution1 took the stage and introduced Devilition. The band, well known in the wrestling world, is a hair band reminiscent of 80’s power rock. Uprising wrestler Griffin Hawkins got the crowd going with his energetic stage presence and glorious hairdo. The band introduced the world to a number of new songs to be released on their upcoming studio album.
British pop band, The Kaiser Chiefs, were introduced to the main stage by superfan and XWF Wrestling Star, Ruby Debuchy. The band played international hits from ten plus years of recordings, but they brought the house down with their most popular song, “Ruby”. Ruby Debuchy was on stage with the band and even played drums for a part of the song.
Damon Riggs took the show next and gave a rousing speech about what It meant to see so many good people show up in support of a good cause. The Old Man, a legend in the wrestling world, received a tremendous ovation before introducing the next act.
Up next, and this is where things started to go off the rails, was Spose, an American rapper all the way from the state of Maine. Spose performed multiple tracks from his career, but the crowd hit a fever pitch when Spose performed his hit song “I’m Awesome”. It was at that time that a drunken fan hit the stage and began singing the song with Spose. Security rushed the stage to remove the fan, but he was able to evade them by jumping in off the stage and disappearing into the crowd.
Security was able to detain the fan, who was later revealed to be PWE wrestler LC Pinkston. According to organizers of the show, LCP had been insisting all day that he was a VIP and an officially sponsored wrestler with THIS IS AWESOME promotions. This has subsequently been confirmed, though staff were unaware of his VIP status at the time.
Headlining the show was Scottish Heavy Metal Pirate band, Alestorm. The band, who was hand picked by event host Drew Archyle, put on a fun, yet unorthodox, show. Archyle took the stage during their final song, singing with lead singer Christopher Bowes before inviting the other six members of TEAM AWESEOME (Ruby, Bert McAlroy, Travis Pierce, Griffin Hawkins, Damon Riggs, and Jin Min-Jun) to the stage with them. After an encore and an appearance by the TIA Calendar girls, the crowd was sent home happy.
The show was a celebration of food, music, football, and wrestling. Some woke up the next day hungover, some woke up in jail, but everyone woke up happy that they were part of the event. If this event was any indication of what the THIS IS AWESOME brand is capable of, there should be many more good things coming to the efed world in the future. Thank you to everyone that showed up and showed out during the event. You are all #awesome
