The scene fades in as it usually does and we find ourselves in Candice “VooDoo” Wolf-Page’s home office in Parts Unknown, Wisconsin. She’s sitting at her desk dressed in a pair of jeans and a tank top that showed off her tattoos; sitting across from her were twin 10 year old girls who were the spitting image of their mother with long red hair.
So, glad you’re helping us with this, Mom. Ciara said as she pressed a few buttons on her cell, brought up the audio recorder and pressed play. She slid her cell on the desk closer to her Mom.
If it’ll help you get that reality TV series “Growing Up Wolfpack”; I’m all for it.
So, tell us… why are you a wrestler?
Am I a wrestler anymore? Last time she had been in the ring was at Cannabis Cup on Team Centurion, before that, when she and Vhodka worked on their relationship.
We could always talk about owning strip clubs? Rose offered from where she sat recording on her iphone with a dead ass serious look on her face. VooDoo didn’t keep her business dealings with Velvet Rabbit from her children; with the internet, it would be hard to do. They are ten, not stupid, so it was better for them to hear the truth from her than the lies on the internet.
VooDoo looked back over to Ciara, who was almost successfully hiding a smile, but there was a certain way her cheeks looked when smiling and her cheeks wouldn’t lie for her. She pursed her lips together as she thought two words -- little smartasses.
Riiiight… She smiled big. Why am I a wrestler?
VooDoo repeated the question that had been given to her.
There’s actually a few reasons. When I started out, it was for fame, you know, seeing my name up in the lights in arenas across the US, knowing that people were coming to see me, it was real easy when I first started in the EWF being married to the owner.
She smirked a little before she continued.
When I went off on my own, I found out I was one of a handful of female wrestlers that could actually hold their own in the ring against men and it was then the reason became…
They told me I can’t. I couldn’t wrestle in the ring with men, so I showed them I can. Whereas women doing that nowadays it’s pretty much the norm; back then, let me tell you, the struggle was real.
Fed owners didn’t want to put you in matches with men, they were scared you would get hurt since your opponent was so much bigger and stronger than you are, even more scared you’d win and make their fed look weak with a woman holding the world title. Male wrestlers didn’t want to fight you; they knew there was a chance you could beat them and they didn’t want that loss held over their heads. It was considered embarrassing to lose to a female wrestler.
She chuckled again and shook her head.
After time, it became the Family business and I never wanted to do anything else but. All my family and friends were wrestlers. Bonus is, I get paid to beat up people for a living.
So, there you have it. VooDoo finally said as she leaned back in her chair. Why I became a wrestler.
Rose pressed stop on her cell phone and lowered it to her lap as both the girls looked at their mother and then each other. Something tells me why she became a strip club owner would be a better story.
I did that because we have to pay your credit card bills. She teased them, except it wasn’t a joke; they shopped enough for ten little girls instead of two. She looked at her watch. It’s almost lunch time, how about we go into town for some pizza at Mama T’s?
Sounds good. They both jumped up.
Go get your brother and Marie.
VooDoo watched as Ciara and Rose took off running from her office to grab the others and she smiled softly for a moment.
As crazy as her life was, she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. She was brought out of her thoughts as a chorus of “Mom!” followed by “Aunt Voo!” echoed through the house. She stood up, shook her head and wondered what kind of adventure she got herself into today.
