As the picture starts to appear, you can hear the voice of a wrestling commentator talking about a match that is going on. The picture starts to appear of a wrestling match appearing in black and white. As the camera zooms out, you start to see a woman sitting in front of the TV screen watching the match intently. The woman is Amy Harrison, who happens to be watching a match of her father, Greg Harrison.
Amy Harrison: Why am I a wrestler?
Amy doesn’t take her eyes off of the match being played, watching how her father wrestled back in the last 60s.
For the longest time, it was the only thing I knew. I literally grew up in the business. My father was one of the biggest names in the UK wrestling scene back in the 60s and early 70s. My dad showed me everything about wrestling, from the matches, the wrestlers, the moves, even what happens behind the scenes. He showed me and the rest of my family that we can all make it here if we put everything into the craft: our mind, our body and our soul.
Just as she finishes what she says, the bell can be heard from the TV and Greg Harrison can be seen having his hand raised in victory by the referee.
Amy Harrison: I became a wrestler to make my dad proud. I wanted to show him that his legacy would continue after him and that I would keep the Harrison name alive in wrestling. I know I’m not the only one in my family that has done this, my sister Mary Ellen is doing well for herself as well, and I’m proud of her for that, but I still have my own goals to focus on.
Amy then turns off the TV and then walks over to the other side of the room. The camera pans over to some shelves in the room, each one holding championship title belts that Amy has won in her career so far.
Amy Harrison: I became a wrestler because I wanted to prove myself, to show everyone that I am as good as I say I am and to be called one of, if not the best out there. I wanted to face the best competition that I can and show that I can hang with anyone that they put across the ring against me.
Amy Harrison: I became a wrestler because wrestling is all I know. My life would be empty if I wasn’t competing in the ring. This business has given my life purpose, a reason to live and a reason to continue. No matter what I’ve gone through in my personal life or anything else that has happened in my life, I know that I can still go out there into that ring, feel the rush from the crowd and put on a hell of a show.
Amy Harrison: I am a wrestler. I’ve always been one and I always will be.
Amy looks at her championships she has won, before looking over at some pictures of some of her key moments in her career, including her title wins, spots from her biggest rivalries and also one picture of her at the beginning of her career, posing with her dad. Amy looks at that picture and nods as she walks out of the room and the picture fades to black.
