We open up inside a dark boardroom. There, a spotlight is shining on a suit clad Centurion, who is seated in a chair with his back to the camera. On the wall he is facing, there are various photos of Centurion victorious in wrestling matches, as well as title belts that he has one over the years.
"I was a young man when I first entered the professional wrestling business, barely above my 21st birthday. It wasn't my childhood dream by any stretch of the imagination. I wanted to be a politician. I went to college, graduated with honors, returned home, and after one unsuccessful campaign, I decided to give up on that and begin a new career. That's when I found wrestling.
But of course, that does not answer the question. Why wrestling? I was an educated man. I could have done anything else with my life. And I try to bring myself back to those days, and remind myself why I did it, and to be honest…I do not know. I don't remember why I decided to become a professional wrestler all those years ago…but I know why I'm still one today. It's because of this…"
Centurion raises his arms to show off the photos and the titles, before slowly turning the chair around and facing the camera.
"It's the glory. It's the chills you feel when you hear your music hit and your name called. It's that first drink of champagne after winning a long and brutal fight. More importantly, it's the knowledge of knowing you have the audience…"
Centurion holds his hand in front of him. He opens up a fist and points to his left palm with his right hand.
"In the palm of your hand. Thousands of people in the audience, and millions of people worldwide, tuning in to see YOU, and you have the ability to change their emotions with a single step, a single punch, a single move. That is the power of an entertainer, and an athlete serves a role in the highest form of entertainment there is.
And sure, I could have chosen an easier life. I would not have bruises on my body every day had I decided to turn golf into a career, or dedicate my life to becoming a chess grandmaster, but after I stepped into the ring for the first time, I realized something very quickly. This professional wrestling stuff…I'm pretty good at it. And after being pretty good at it for a few years, I become EXCEPTIONAL at it. I became one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and I would receive that heroes welcome to places I've never been before, just because of my name and who I am. It became an addiction. Every time I stepped away from the business, I would hear the crowd once more in my ears. It would be loud, and ever present.
There was a time when I dreamed of passing this business off to the next generation. A time when I would fade into the darkness and allow the young, hungry wrestlers to take my place. Now, I realize that will never happen. I will never be rid of this business. The moment I retire for good is the moment they lower me into the grave."
Centurion reaches into his inside jacket pocket and pulls out a stack of bills that are held together with a money clip. He smiles as he sets them down on the table in front of him.
"Oh, it would be disingenuous of me to not also mention the money. The lifestyle I get to live is because of companies paying me millions to perform in front of an audience. I own expensive suits, nice cigars, a luxury cabin and lots of land. I have the best friends you could possibly ask for, the sweetest, most beautiful girlfriend in the world, and a life many envy. So, you want to ask me why I became a professional wrestler? The fact is…
It doesn't matter.
Because I'm here now, and life is good."
