Adapted from a tweet by former wrestler Bob Evans
Ok so the title is a bit click-baity, I'm not really dying. Nobody is (that I'm aware of). But the content of this tweet is from an IRL wrestler about IRL wrestling. And the message is imporatant. I think it applies to the hobby of efedding just as well. Here's the piece:
Don't fall into the same traps that other handlers do.
The passive-aggressiveness in this hobby can be frustrating. In a competitive field, there will always be drama. Someone has to win. Someone has to lose. And inevitably, someone is going to feel like they were treated unfairly, cheated, or lied to. Beef happens. Some of it can be prevented, but dealing with drama is an essential club needed in your golf bag.
When drama pops up, private message the person you have a beef with and try to fix it. We need friends in this hobby, not enemies. If they wronged you, they should own up to it. Oh, and by the way, if you wronged someone, you should OWN UP TO IT. Make it right.
Burning bridges and winning some "heat" war is non-productive. It can only destroy. It's cutting your nose off to spite your face. It's addition by subtraction. But the temptation is to be a keyboard hero, slay the dragon in public, and hearing the praise of the masses. I myself have joined in a few crusades in my time and believed it was the right thing to do, but now I only have regrets about it.
Cancelling and publicly humiliating your enemies is no recipe for growth. It's all self-gratification with no climax. Empty. Soulless stuff. It's sad, because nobody wins in that fight. Screen-shotting private messages, posting private pictures, and doxxing someone who has wronged you only creates a hostile environment. It may seem like the right idea at the time, but eventually, the angry mob will come to the doorstep of you, your fed, or one of your friends.
If you've attempted to clear the air. You've sent the private messages. You tried to start from a common ground on something you can agree on, but were still unsuccessful in meeting halfway and coming to a compromise. The best plan is to first mute the other party. You ignore them until you are ready to give them a second chance and forgive them. If things escalate from there, just go ahead and block them. Mutes and blocks aren't forever. Cooler heads prevail and most people have a short memory when it comes to holding grudges. Give yourself some time and muster up the willpower to let bad times of the past just be water under the bridge. You'll live your life and enjoy this hobby with clear eyes and a full heart.
Be adults. Pull the splinter out so infection doesn't take hold. Talk to each other. Communicate. Admit when you make mistakes. Be human. Don't listen to the angry mob. Life is too short and too precious to spend it hating other people. Give peace a chance.
Making the hobby better isn't just keeping out toxic handlers. It's also about being responsible human beings to the game and each other. We are playing a make believe game with make believe rules. Who is one person to decide what is right and wrong? You can learn something from every person you meet. Get to know the ones you disagree with the most and I think you'll find that you are more alike than different.
Love you all
